• Walking In This World – Week 3

This week is all about discovering a sense of perspective and the main topics of focus were medicine and how creativity is healing in itself, something that I’ve known for some time but it’s nice to see someone else bring it to the forefront and really it was probably the part that had me nodding hardcore with everything. Cameron also goes into depth about how art is therapeutic and not just therapy, I’d have to say that this has to be my most favourite Week, so far. It’s perfect in every way. The last part of the chapter is how artist’s are cartographers in that they are able to map…

  • The Artist’s Way Wrap Up

Before I ventured on to actually do this journey, I’d heard lots about The Artist’s Way. Even friends who had dabbled with just the beginning pages had mentioned it but never really thought much about it. Now looking back I understand why it’s such a pivot and most recommended books around the internet. The Artist’s Way may have been published way back when (1992 to be exact), but every essay written within its cover still hits all the right spots some 25 years later. For those of you who haven’t picked up the book, seriously what are you doing? Even if you’re not blocked and you want to learn more…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 12

I’m so sad, I’ve been putting this wrap up post off for so long because it’s the very last one for The Artist’s Way and I don’t like goodbyes when they’re final. I can do it if I know I’ll see them again and I know that this book will be in my life for all time but I think I’m ready to take a lot of it’s lessons into life and use them to better my creativity and my life. I’m excited to see where I go from here. Week twelve is all about a recovering a sense of faith; it touches on trusting, mystery, the imagination at play…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 11

This week was all about autonomy and I found this week’s essays to be ones that touched me on a different level. There was loads about creativity and it’s basis in the topics of acceptance, success, the zen of sports and building your artist’s altar, all of which are infinitely important. I took a moment to really delve into these and found that I wanted to actually write out every one of these small essays and tape them everywhere and anywhere I could put them. Morning Pages: Less consistent with them this week, but I definitely did crave them and found that it was easy to get to the page,…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 10

This week was all about self-protection and I have to admit that it’s taken me a little bit to get through this one because I’ve been so swamped with my uni work but never to fear I’m back on track with it. The themes covered were dangers of the trails, workaholism (so guilty here), drought, fame and competition, which all definitely are factors when it comes to sabotaging creativity. Morning Pages: I was consistent on and off and I can feel when I don’t do them because I get a bit itchy with the need to actually get myself writing on the page, I’m taking this as a sign. Also…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 9

This week was all about finding a sense of compassion, which is probably the biggest and hardest week for me. Mostly because I am way too hard on myself and it bleeds into just about everything else I do. The topics that were covered this week were: fear, enthusiasm, creative u-turns, blasting through blocks. It’s probably a week of really digging in and trying to learn to be compassionate. I caught myself and found that I was most definitely harder on myself, more than I need to be. Morning Pages: I wasn’t actually consistent this time, because one of the tasks was to read morning pages. Hello freak out? It…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 8

This week was all about strength and it’s a good week, all about finding the strength even through the negative and I think it was fitting. I like to think that I have a pretty thick skin and even though it was a relatively easy week I did find a lot of resistance. The topics that were covered included: survival, the ivory power, gain disguised as loss, age and time: product and process, filling the form and this week went back to affirmations. Morning Pages: I was pretty consistent with it this time, I made sure that I did a little even if it was just before work or what…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 7

This week was all about connections and broken down into a dew core topics: Listening, perfectionism, risk and jealousy, which all made total sense and the tasks that came with this week are pretty spot on with helping. It included an archaeology lesson (a bit like taking a look at what’s happening in your life and what you’re grateful for, hello abundance here. A jealousy journal and listening to an entire music album and doing just that, listening. Morning Pages: Okay I’m going to stop trying to do them every day. I wake up and I keep going instantly to my phone and scrolling vs doing the pages. And even…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 6

Here we are at Week 6 of The Artist’s Way and it’s been one of my favourite so far. After having read Big Magic by Liz Gilbert there was no shame in having a job that paid the bills while I created my art, which is okay, I’m 100 per cent okay with having a retail job while I study and create because it allows me to do that with a peace of mind and not have to worry. The theme for this week was recovering a sense of abunance and the topics that were covered were: the great creator, luxury, counting (an exercise) and money madness I really like not…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 5

This week with The Artist’s Way was all about recovering a sense of possibility. The topic that were covered included: limits, finding the river, the virtue trap, forbidden joys and a wish list exercise What would you do if you had an unlimited amount of money and time? What wouldn’t you do, should probably be the right answer there. It’s been a fun week and I managed to get most of the exercises done too. Which was actually really fun. Morning Pages: There’s been a lot of things that I’ve had to process and a lot of it just didn’t want to come out onto the page, I like this…
