• The Artist’s Way – Week 4

Week Four of The Artist’s Way came and went and it wasn’t as bad as initially thought it was going to be and the reading deprivation wasn’t all that hard, but it just meant that I got intimate with cleaning, changing my wardrobe and rearranging furniture. The topics that were covered this week weren’t as many as the previous weeks and exploring the recovery of a sense of integrity was an interesting week, with the reading deprivation being the biggest topic. There was aslo honest changes and a buried dreams exercise. Morning Pages: I missed a few days with my morning pages this week, mostly because I’d get up with…

  • The Writing Essence Facebook Group

I know how invaluable support is and I’m lucky I’m surrounded by writers both in the flesh and around the world, who I can call on for that support. I have friends who get it and understand the writing process and without words can help me bounce ideas and understand what I can’t see. More so, though, I have people I can lean on and who can pick me up when I’m down. And in everyday life, we don’t always have that support a keyboard away, but not anymore. In comes in The Writing Essence Facebook Group. I know, I know, we’re all saturated with Facebook groups and I…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 3

Here we are at another week of The Artist’s Way. Okay, so I may have stretched this out a little when I took a bit of a break so it’s slightly cheating but I enjoyed it regardless. I actually was doing this week over New Years back home and I started the year of sick, but I got my butt to the beach where I did my morning pages and took a really cold dip in the water to wake me up. It was really cold, but hey my sinuses were clear for a short time! Ha! I’m going to break this down a little more with the roundup and…

  • 2017 Reading Challenge

It’s a new year and I think it’s a perfect time to hit up a great reading challenge because we all need to get more reading into our lives. I’ll be sharing this on my social media as well as attempting to use Pinterest too, but that’s another hurdle, maybe one I’ll try to attempt this year? Who knows, anyway. I’ve never really played with reading challenges because, well except if it’s to read a number of books in a certain time…I’m okay at that (when I had much more time, I used to be a pro at it!) but this is new even for me. So, while this is…

  • The Artist’s Way – Week 1

I decided to restart studying The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron because I wanted to see it through. When I came back from Bali I brought this book to and from with me as something to read and I never got to it until I was on my flight home from Adelaide. I’d heard lots about it, but I never actually sat down to do it and now here I am, doing it. I’m also going to document it. I’m going to go through week by week and hold myself accountable on here for it. That way I can’t actually slack off. I’m not blocked, let’s just get that straight…

  • Rise Sister Rise by Rebecca Campbell

My skin feels tight, my body seems ready for what’s to come and I can already feel the shifts. I finished this book in record time, in comparison to its sister book Light is the new black. I struggled so hardcore to finish and let myself get distracted and put off by the hugeness of the actual book, but once I was done with it I could understand why. It was a book that cracked me wide open, Campbell has a way of writing that gets right into the spaces between and really exposes those cracks. And while I thought I was ready for it, I soooo wasn’t. Rise sister…

  • What Workshopping Has Done to Me

Dreamers, I’ve fallen in love. I’m back at Uni and studying my little butt off (which is why I’m so quiet on here) and I fell in love with workshopping all over again. You see back in my Flinders days I was pretty cool with everyone telling me how good my writing was. It was a nice little ego boost, then when I was at Melbourne Polytechnic (formerly known as NMIT) I had my arse handed to me on a silver platter. I was too cocky. I took it to heart. I let it get the better of me. My piece was shredded before my eyes and I felt like…

  • First Drafts Frustrations

I have a love hate relationship with writing first drafts of anything. I have written about it before over here and it’s a topic that I will never get tired of talking about because every first draft is so different from the last. I’ve had first drafts where I struggled to connect with the female character and found the male character easier to write, which for me, is completely left of field and hard to comprehend. I got past that and rounded out that character. I even came back to it and fell in love more, but there are some stories that drive me up the wall. During April I tackled…

  • Fuelling your Writing Temple

When I think of food, I always think: Yum, get in my belly! I’m Greek, so if you can’t find a common language barrier, you just feed people. It’s an unofficial rule or something of the like, or at least that’s what I like to think anyway. I grew up around food, the smells of pastisio, moussaka, freshly made bread and kokkinisto (red sauce) meat is something I associated with life. Meals that were made with extra love have always been a highlight in my day. Since moving out and learning about food I decided to nix a lot of things out of my diet (some because it makes me…

  • #5minsofwriting

A juicy and loving Writing Practice is a marathon of love. It’s not something that happens overnight and I know that through years and years of love and labour, I can get to my computer and sit down for a short amount of time and just pump out the words, but there are days where I find the idea of sitting down and writing something akin to sitting in the dentist chair (it’s been almost 3 years since my last trip…shhh) and it’s perfectly normal to have these days. Even I struggle with days where the thought of putting my fingers onto the keypad is excruciating and I would…
