Writing Wednesday
I’m back from my holiday back home and this weeks Writing Wednesday came up from a conversation that I had with a childhood friend. As a kid I always wanted to be a teacher, there was something about it that always drew me closer, but when I realised the amount of patience I needed to not go insane, I decided against it and I’m glad I did, because if I was a teacher I wouldn’t be writing this to you guys right here! What was your character’s (or yours) childhood dream job? Tell me all about it. Don’t forget to send your tries to dreaming (at) dreamingfullyawake (dot) com…

Finding The Write Distance
It’s no surprise that I love writing fiction. And I know that what I do isn’t perfect, it’s why editing exists because you need to keep remoulding, revising and revitalising your work to get it close to perfect. I’ll always find something wrong with my writing, but I’m a perfectionist, so it’s probably not a good thing to look at me (ha!). Today’s blog is about distance and finding the write distance in both your writing and in your editing. You’re probably looking at me and going, why the hell have you put the wrong right in title? Well for one, I’m covering two different types of distances. One that is…

Writing Wednesday
It’s another Writing Wednesday, and what a good Wednesday it is. I’m up at the Adelaide Writers’ Week and I’m volunteering. It’s been years since I’ve been to the writers’ week and they’ve made it beautiful. It’s been fun. Today’s writing prompt is all about TV Shows. I’ve been binging on Banshee, which is so damn addictive. You’re character’s favourite show is something that’s so far out of the norm, how do they react to it when that show is better than their reality. Write it out. Don’t forget to send your tries to dreaming (at) dreamingfullyawake (dot) com

Writing Wednesday
I’m in Adelaide for the Writers’ Week that starts on Saturday and I’m a little excited to get to volunteer for it. Woop but in saying that today’s Writing Wednesday is probably one of my favourite things to write about. I like testing the boundaries in stories and I love characters that do it even more. It’s like a pet love of mine. I have no idea why, but today’s prompt is all about that. You’re character has just been given an order to not go out in the shit storm that’s about too happen, but of course they are. Explain what happens and how they test the boundaries…

Writing Wednesday
Today’s Writing Wednesday piece is all about prettiness and flowers. Flowers lighten up a room and I’ve come so used to buying them for myself that I stray from the usual. If there’s something different I want it. So today, here’s your turn to tell me about flowers. Flowers arrive at your workplace without a card. It’s not Valentine’s Day and you don’t have a partner…who could they be from? Explore it. Send me your tries! Let me know about them in the comments below, send me a link or send me an email to dreaming (at) dreamingfullyawake (dot) com

Editing: Breaking It Up, It’s Time
Great writing comes with great technique right? Well…sometimes. Mostly it comes with really, really good editing. Today I’m here to talk to you about breaking it up and how it can work for you while you go through edits. And some may read this and go, duh, I knew that, but can you say that you really did it? Can you? If you’re reading this and still sitting here going: “Maybe later.” Then you need to get yourself moving and now. It’s the hardest part of writing anything. Or at least that’s how I find it. Others will tell you that writing something on a blank page is harder but…

Writing Wednesday
Valentine’s Day is only a few days away and while I’m not one to celebrate I know there are many that go all out for the beloved V-Day. Kudos to them! Me? I’m happy with some flowers and meal at home. Best ever. Today’s Writing Wednesday prompt is all about being loved up. So get your keyboards ready and start the writing! You’re walking through a room, it’s full of petals, post it notes and soft candlelight, where does it lead? Has your beloved set up the perfect night you’ve been waiting for? Write about it, tell me if it’s good or bad. I personally have a really bad…

Writing Wednesday
It’s the month of loooove and today’s Writing Wednesday is all about the colour red. Your character wakes up in a bed of red satin with no memory of where they were before they fell asleep. Retrace their steps and tell their story. Send me your tries to dreaming@dreamingfullyawake.com for a chance to get free editing and a chance to be featured on Sharing Sunday.

Writing Wednesday
I can sense a bit of a theme with this month’s Writing Wednesday. I’m so glad that it’s summer so I’m a little bit obsessed with the beach. It’s my favourite place to go and then recharge and switch back on. Today’s prompt is about getting ready to go on a beach trip. You’ve got your bathers on, but that’s as organised you are at the moment. What do you need to take with you to the beach? What’s in your bag? Do you have money for food or are you bringing some? Explain in detail and talk about how it feels to get ready to go to the beach.…

Why Readers Love Flawed Characters
Today I’ve got a post that I probably started a few times over. I struggled with it, because I’m having a hard time writing anything and I’m having a hard time shaking off the doubt monster but today I’m back with a post about why readers love flawed characters, but to get there first I needed to talk about a few things involving writing. So hopefully you enjoy it. Writing is an immensely personal thing, everyone who is a writer understands that, but the writers without a thick skin tend to get left behind. They tend to take any sort of feedback and get defensive and take it as an attack…
