Writing Wednesday
Today’s Writing Wednesday Prompt is about magic. I’m starting to watch the Harry Potter movies again (it probably means I’m about due to re-read the books but I am a snob and can’t read anything before book 3!) and all that is been on my mind is magic! So bear with me, I promise it’ll be fun. Your character wakes up in the middle of a dream, only to find out that it really wasn’t a dream. Magic is real and Harry Potter is no where in sight, what do you do? What is the first power that your character has? Have fun with it! Let me know how…

Book Review: The Forest of Hands and Teeth
Wow, I really don’t know what kept me back from actually reading this book sooner, although if I really think about it hard I can chalk it up to Uni completely consuming me, but still, I was a little silly to wait so long to get my hands on a copy of it. The cover I got, I admit, wasn’t the one that really drew me to the series initially (see a cover really does make a different), but that didn’t matter, the story made up for it. Carrie Ryan’s writing, I’ll have to admit, wasn’t one that I thought I would be initially drawn towards, but she had a…

Sharing Sunday – Echoes
Today’s Sharing Sunday piece is by Gabriela and it’s a poem! Yay for mixed pieces other than short stories. It’s called Echoes and when she was thinking up the poem she had a picture in her mind of a huge dark, endless empty room, and trying to put those images into words. It was only after writing the first sentence did she realise how much of a metaphor that empty room was. After that the poem became a little more personal. So without anymore waffling from me here is Echoes. Echoes There’s silence, only silence.Nothingness, and nothing more. And yet, the nothingness is crushing,And the lull, a deafening roar. There’s blackness, utter darkness And…

Writing Wednesday
It’s that time again, Writing Wednesday is here, it makes me look forward to hump day now, and today’s prompt is a the culmination of me watching far too much 24 in the last few days. I used to love that show and now that it’s got a new season going on (I think it might be finished already) but I thought I’d get through it all before. So here is your prompt. Good luck and send it to me (dreaming(at)dreamingfullyawake(dot)com) if you get done with it! Your character is a secret government agent. In the future. They’re job is to make sure that their mission goes off without a…

Sharing Sunday – Cheeseburgers and Werewolves
Here we are again! Another Sharing Sunday, this week we’ve got ourselves another American. Tegon wrote his piece as it was inspired by a friend…52 years old who was terrifed of a the dark and possessed a real fear of werewolves and all things that go bump in the night. As it turns out, while a work, he his food everywhere and would secret it out during the course of the day to feed his never satisified hunger…his favourite treat…cheeseburgers. I hope you enjoy the piece. Leave Tegon some love in the comments guys. Cheeseburgers and Werewolves Saturday, October 25 1958… Shortly after my twelfth birthday, my Uncle, who I rarely…

Writing Wednesday
Oh look at that, new picture for Writing Wednesday. Yup! I’m bringing out some of my own prompts too. I really don’t want to have my butt kicked for posting too much of stuff I can’t get permission for. So this fixes it. Bare with me a little, this is a little rusty. Today’s theme is light. Start at the end of a tunnel and work your way back. Use the words light, glow, free and nearly there within your writing. Steer clear of cliches. Can you do that? I’m sure you can. Good luck! Send me a link of what you’ve done in the comment or email me!

Rise Up: Going Pro
When do you sit down and call yourself a writer? A serious, no bullshit, fucking writer. Some never do it. I know I already did. I admitted to it, while I said it. I never actually believed it. Until today. I sat down and opened Scrivener and was like, okay it’s time to really do this. And by this I mean finish this edit so I can send it off to my beta readers. I’ve been resisting really hard with this. Purely because I think I’ve been scared to really show them what I have. This book is my baby, it has been for the last 11 years and I’m…

Fully Awake Dreamer – Jessi Tait
Here we are again! Another Fully Awake Dreamer. Today’s Dreamer is one of the first friends I made at Uni. Jessi Tait. She is one hell of a woman and I know that she’ll bring out the read good stuff in the future. I can feel it in my bones. You may have already seen a snipper of her writing with this piece from Sharing Sunday and you know she’s good for it. Leave her a little love note down the bottom to cheer her on. Tell us a little about yourself and what you write. I’m a Mum first. To a 10 year old boy going on 16, Felix…

Sharing Sunday – In a Post-Alien Raid World
We have a repeat Sharing Sunday Dreamer in the mix. Andy has been all too kind to let me hound him for another story and here it is. I love what goes on in his brain, even if I don’t feel the same while editing things of his! Enjoy. Ps his title is a work in progress, don’t judge. Also leave him some feedback in the comments, he’ll get a kick out of that. In a Post-Alien Raid World In post-raid world life went to hell. Oh sure there were a few remote places, edges of the earth, that had barely been touched. They retained civilisation, government, freedom—but the rest…

Night Broken
It’s been a long time since I have had the pleasure of feeling a book hangover. In fact I can’t even remember the last time I had the time to read a book long enough to have a book hangover. I’ve had as much trouble reading as I have with writing in the last month or two. I’m nearly done with The Desire Map by Daniella Laporte (which is actually fantastic) but I’m half way through Tara Moss’ autobiography/memoir/social commentary book (I’m not sure what to class it as and everything works!) as well as nearly finished with an omnibus that I loved as a teen. It currently takes me…
