• Faded Fragments: A Nexus Series Novel

Faded Fragments. Two words that came to me after I decided to change the original name of my novel (fyi it was first dubbed Kiss of The Dead and I used the font Papyrus to write it.) I was 14 when the story first came to mind. It started with a scene and to be honest it started as a result of finally seeing The Mummy and falling more in love with Ancient Egyptian mythology (and a young Brendan Fraser…let’s be real, Rick was and still is the dreamiest man ever). The first draft of FF was messy, it was incomplete and was just a scene with minimal action and…

  • Reading Wrap Up

I’ve decided to do a round up of links that I read, because sometimes I get a little carried away and excited because, seriously, there’s SO much goodness out there. And it’s really hard to get around to reading a lot of it. Lately I’ve been reading random Elephant Journal pieces that pop up in my feed. But I feel like you guys need to know what’s happening and what I’m reading. This is also going to include novels, because I always have a novel around with me. I’m still reading my way through Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter novels and I’m currently up to Dream Chaser which is both good…

  • Sharing Sunday – Rampaging Rats

It’s no surprise as to this weeks Sharing Sunday lady is. Susan is back again with another excerpt! I just love her pieces and I’m excited that I get to share pieces that people are willing to send into me. If you’re interested hit me up on Facebook (click on the icon on the right) or check this page out for me details. I’m open for anything and everything! Now onto Rampaging Rats! Rampaging Rats Cleverly disguised as a French artist, Operative Digger travelled to Sydney by train. He then headed immediately for King’s Cross. His first stop was Club Canine, where he hoped to run into some of his…

  • The Finishing Point: NaNoWriMo 2014

So I finished my NaNoWriMo first draft on the 17th of November. It’s why I’ve been a little quiet. I’ve been trying to process exactly what that means to me. I wrote 95,000 words in 17 days. That’s a record for me. I completed an entire novel. It seems that when I’m given then time and the drive, I’m a pretty immersive creature and when I’m into a project, I’m all in, baby. All the way in. Narrowing my focus and taking a weekend away from all of my distractions was probably the biggest push I needed. Through aching wrist and crying knees I reached 50k in 3 and a…

  • What to Bring to NaNoWriMo

Ahhh there much be a million and one posts of NaNoWriMo out there, I know I’ve done one before, but her we are, two days before NaNo is due to start and I still haven’t finished plotting out the novel that is going to write itself! Or that’s what I’m hoping. I’m here to shine a light on what you need to bring to NaNo. A lot of people like to be pantsers and have no plot and write as they please, that’s easy enough, right? But I can’t do it. I get stuck and that leads to not being able to write and then freaking out. Plotters are much…

  • Sharing Sunday – Major Dakota’s Ghost

I really, really love everything that Susan has sent through. Note to Susan: if you have more and can share them, please do. This week’s Sharing Sunday piece is a snipper from Major Dakota’s Ghost. I think it’s brilliant, but I’ll let you be the judge of that one. Enjoy it! Major Dakota’s Ghost Commander Rocky slipped out of the Major’s office and crept silently along a dark passageway to a dungeon. He could hear muffled voices. He progressed slowly towards them to allow his eyes to adjust to the darkness. As he grew closer he could hear a man’s voice raised about the rest. “Just shut ya yapping, ya…

  • Sharing Sunday – Drugs Were Involved

Today’s Sharing Sunday piece is by Zack (and he’s an American, yay look at that DFA’s second American!) Drugs Were Involved is the second chapter in his psuedo-noveL, a series of short stories loosely attached to one another. The premise came from a lingering through he’s had – a sneeze so mighty it sends the person into an alternate reality. Without further ado, here it is! Give him some love and enjoy the read. Drugs Were Involved I have devised a means of hitchhiking through the multiverse. Drugs were involved from the start. If this threatens my credibility with you, so be it. It began with a nasal infection. Through careful studies I…

  • Rise Up: Going Pro

When do you sit down and call yourself a writer? A serious, no bullshit, fucking writer. Some never do it. I know I already did. I admitted to it, while I said it. I never actually believed it. Until today. I sat down and opened Scrivener and was like, okay it’s time to really do this. And by this I mean finish this edit so I can send it off to my beta readers. I’ve been resisting really hard with this. Purely because I think I’ve been scared to really show them what I have. This book is my baby, it has been for the last 11 years and I’m…

  • 3 Ways to Make your Characters More Believable

Characters are people, just like you and me. I love them. They make or break a book and frankly if you didn’t have a character that was memorable, then your book is almost worthless. This is also one of my all tie favourite topics. I’m going to give you 3 tools to help you make your characters more believable in your writing. I can count on my hand the number of characters I can remember and they in turn have made me love books. They make me keep reading on in hopes that a really great series that plateaued and got crappy, straightens itself out a brings itself out of…

  • Leaping Over Hill: Second Draft Finished

I did it! My second draft of my novel is finished in it’s entirety! Would you look at that! After having overcome so much it’s almost bittersweet to know that I’m done with it. At least for now. The best part of it too? I shaved off 20,000 words. I say that’s a good redraft effort. It’s funny, things that took me by surprise in this draft was just how immersed I was in it. I’ve missed the better part of last week because I was either immersed in reading and firing my inspiration up or I was writing. I was also moaning about the resistance I kept feeling…
