3 Ways to Make your Characters More Believable
Characters are people, just like you and me. I love them. They make or break a book and frankly if you didn’t have a character that was memorable, then your book is almost worthless. This is also one of my all tie favourite topics. I’m going to give you 3 tools to help you make your characters more believable in your writing. I can count on my hand the number of characters I can remember and they in turn have made me love books. They make me keep reading on in hopes that a really great series that plateaued and got crappy, straightens itself out a brings itself out of…

Sharing Sunday – The Death Of A Loved One
Today’s Sharing Sunday piece is a snippet of writing from an only buddy of mine. Jess is crazy talented but needed some coaxing. So leave her some love in the comments. Without further ado, here is her piece. The Death of a Loved One The night was silent. He had noticed nearly immediately the abrupt hush that had blanketed over the thicket as he entered. His muscles tensed and his ears perked as he settled into a sitting position, crossing his legs over each other. Bidzil listened intently; his dark blue eyes searched the hollow of the trees for any sign of abnormality. Just as annoyance began to fester…

Writing Wednesday – Paint the Town Pink
I love pink. So when I saw this exercise in the book I might have squealed a little bit! Today’s Writing Wednesday prompt is all about painting the town pink. Using the starting phrase and fill up an entire page. Start with: When I’m in a neon pink mood…. Once you’ve done that print it out and go over it with a pink pen. Edit the crap out of it. Now you’ll be stepping into my world. I only ever edit with pink and most of my uni buddies would have found out. And finding a pink pen that erases mistakes out? Perfect for editing! Happy writing guys. Send…

Fiction vs Nonfiction
So I learned something really powerful. Nonfiction absolutely hates me. I mean I like the idea of it and but it just doesn’t like me. And I only say that because I know that I’ve always been better at fiction because I like to make up stories, don’t ask me to lie for you though, I can do it but it will slowly eat me alive. Fiction makes so much sense to me, I had the same trouble with writing essays and even oral presentation because I’m afraid of getting my message across and it was purely because of that that I hated public speaking, it was later remedied with…

Writing Wednesday
And today’s Writing Wednesday exercise is all about a peephole! You know it’s not as dirty as it sounds, I promise. You look through the peephole of your front door and see a face. Play out the story. Start with: I wish I came from a small family…. Leave me a note in the comments if you use it!

Leaping Over Hill: Second Draft Finished
I did it! My second draft of my novel is finished in it’s entirety! Would you look at that! After having overcome so much it’s almost bittersweet to know that I’m done with it. At least for now. The best part of it too? I shaved off 20,000 words. I say that’s a good redraft effort. It’s funny, things that took me by surprise in this draft was just how immersed I was in it. I’ve missed the better part of last week because I was either immersed in reading and firing my inspiration up or I was writing. I was also moaning about the resistance I kept feeling…

Sharing Sunday – Speed Bump Charlie ABC
Today’s Sharing Sunday piece is by a lovely lady by the name of Susan Day. Her piece is a poem from her children’s book she wrote last year! I’m envious, those things are hard to write! Speed Bump Charlie is her family cat in disguise, he leads a double life as the evil genius in Susan’s novel series. I hope you enjoy the piece, look out for more of Susan around the place too! Speed Bump Charlie’s ABC Welcome to my A B C, I hope you’re not going to be, A chicky-wicky, scaredy puss, A spineless, jelly-kneed wuss. You know the type that I mean, They run and…

Night Broken
It’s been a long time since I have had the pleasure of feeling a book hangover. In fact I can’t even remember the last time I had the time to read a book long enough to have a book hangover. I’ve had as much trouble reading as I have with writing in the last month or two. I’m nearly done with The Desire Map by Daniella Laporte (which is actually fantastic) but I’m half way through Tara Moss’ autobiography/memoir/social commentary book (I’m not sure what to class it as and everything works!) as well as nearly finished with an omnibus that I loved as a teen. It currently takes me…

Writing Wednesdays
It seems normal, almost sane to have Writing Wednesdays, yeah? Yeah! So I have been dying to try and figure out how to make this work. Like seriously. Do i put it out there, or do I try something different? I put it off. I introduced Fully Awake Dreamers, which is still happening but I’ve decided to be a little lighter with posting them, because it needs to be special. This now brings me to something more. Something better. Welcome to Writing Wednesday. What’s the deal with is? Well I’m glad you asked. Today (and every Wednesday from now on) I will be giving you a writing prompt. Something that…
