Sharing Sunday – Nightfall
My beautiful friend Av is my first victim dreamer for my weekly Sharing Sunday segment and I have to say that I love her. She is such a beautiful and authentic soul that it’s hard not to smile around her pixie like self. Please make her feel welcome and enjoy what she has for us today, it’s truly sizzling.
Nightfall by Avrille Bylok-Collard
Are lovers meant to be like this?
Figures that dance in clandestine shadows to dissolve in the morning light,
like salt in a beaker or fluttering lenses in the night?
There are many things I’d sacrifice to press my palms against yours
in the full summer sun, caressing your breast during the evening glow.
‘I love you,’ you’ll say, sheathing yourself into me,
words that bubble over in emotion,
like a station of superficial empathy.
I clutch myself to you,
dreaming of different lives with different husbands,
different promises that fulfill my needs;
and when we reach our zenith, you empty yourself into me,
hoping for a fragment that this is meant to be.
Yet here we are: glow-in-the-dark hearts wrapped in fumbling skin,
grappling at the edges for a transient truth,
that dissolved in our pepsin many hours ago.
Tonight is the night, that heated breath will be exchanged,
to simply tell you: ‘I don’t love you, like I did, yesterday.’
Let me know what you think, or better yet, head over to her blog, Philharmonic Heartstrings and let her know what you think. If you’re thinking about submitting for Sharing Sunday next week hit me up in the comments and I’ll add you to the list!
About the Dreamer
Hello there, my name is Avrille [pronunciation: av–rule]. Though it may look archaic when typed, I’ve been told it sounds prettier aloud. However, my family and friends told me that, which makes me suspicious that they’re just saying that to keep the harmony.
I have a very sarcastic sense of humour that I employ in my university assignments—I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Writing & Publishing, with aims to complete a Masters afterwards—and daily life. It often gets me into trouble, but it makes life exciting at least. Honestly, I detest writing in first person, but I ignore it through watching a plethora of TV shows and reading voraciously.
